Actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya, who is also a part of Anushka Sharma\u2019s Chakda Xpress<\/a>, has seen enough of the industry to know exactly how it responds to success. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, he spoke about how the film industry abides by certain formulas for a hit. Citing the example of recently released Saiyaara featuring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Dibyendu predicted that Bollywood will now witness a flood of similar stories.<\/p>\n

Dibyendu Bhattacharya says there will be an influx of stories like Saiyaara now<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a formula-oriented industry,” he said. \u201cWhen one thing works, everyone follows it. I can guarantee this \u2013 now that Saiyaara has become a hit<\/a>, there\u2019s going to be a mad rush among people to make love stories. Because that\u2019s what happens here. After Lagaan, there were 50 scripts about rural cricket. After Dil Chahta Hai, everyone started writing stories about four or five friends.”<\/p>\n

He also observed how the industry\u2019s current lack of storytelling diversity limits both creators and viewers. \u201cRight now, it\u2019s all about horror, ghost stories, and sometimes comedy that feels too forced or even boring. You wonder\u2014why are we laughing at such random things?”<\/p>\n

Dibyendu says his acting process is human, not technical<\/strong><\/p>\n

Despite being a trained actor from the National School of Drama, Dibyendu\u2019s approach to acting is intuitive rather than theoretical. \u201cI know all the theory \u2014Grotowski, Natyashastra, Stanislavski. But ultimately, acting has to be human and heartfelt. If a character doesn\u2019t touch your heart, you can\u2019t connect with it.”<\/p>\n

He believes emotional honesty is key. \u201cI keep my eyes wide open in life. Every person is important because every personality is a unique human being. That\u2019s how I build my characters. Even in Jamtara, the guy I played didn\u2019t know right from wrong. His seniors were doing shady things, so he followed suit. There are many people like that \u2013 docile, grey, not black or white.”<\/p>\n

His deep interest in people, even those he doesn\u2019t like, drives his performances. \u201cIf I dislike someone, I ask myself why. What is it about them that bothers me? That\u2019s how you build nuance,” the actor said.<\/p>\n

Dibyendu admits he is sometimes a \u2018yes-man\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dibyendu admits he\u2019s not always selective about roles<\/a>, and that\u2019s not necessarily a flaw. \u201cI\u2019m a yes-man. When someone comes to me with a character, whether it\u2019s a newcomer or a successful director, I always say yes first. Then I look at the story, then at my role. I ask, is this character important? If you remove it, will the story still stand?”<\/p>\n

But the decision is also practical. \u201cI\u2019m not a part-time actor. I\u2019m a professional. I run my household with this work. Sometimes I\u2019ve gone a whole year without work. I\u2019d cook, read, listen to CDs, and watch TV. But you need money to survive. So I did small shows and films just to get by,” he says.<\/p>\n

He acknowledges that saying yes hasn\u2019t always paid off. \u201cThere have been projects I\u2019ve regretted, sure. But that\u2019s also part of the journey. Our industry is like an ocean \u2013 so many things happen. You survive, that\u2019s the goal.”<\/p>\n

Dibyendu says that while he works very hard, there are also moments of doing nothing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dibyendu<\/a> says he brings full energy to every set he\u2019s on. \u201cWhen I work, I work. Ask any director or co-actor, and they\u2019ll tell you. It\u2019s a full-on party. I enjoy the process, ordering food, and cracking jokes. But when it\u2019s time to prep, I isolate myself. I memorise my lines, get into the zone. And after the shoot? I\u2019m back to being with everyone, laughing.”<\/p>\n

And when there\u2019s no work? \u201cI can sit in one place all day doing nothing \u2013 just staring at a tree. I love that kind of stillness. It\u2019s bliss,” Dibyendu concludes and signs off.<\/p>\n
