{"id":18414,"date":"2025-10-14T07:46:56","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T07:46:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tezgyan.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/14\/indian-tourists-in-japan-may-soon-be-able-to-pay-via-upi\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T07:46:56","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T07:46:56","slug":"indian-tourists-in-japan-may-soon-be-able-to-pay-via-upi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tezgyan.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/14\/indian-tourists-in-japan-may-soon-be-able-to-pay-via-upi\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian tourists in Japan may soon be able to pay via UPI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>Indian travellers visiting Japan may soon be able to use digital payments as NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), the international arm of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NTT DATA Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement sets the stage for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbctv18.com\/tags\/upi.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Unified Payments Interface (UPI)<\/a> acceptance across Japanese merchant locations, offering a convenient payment experience for Indians abroad.<\/p>\n<p>NTT DATA Japan, a subsidiary of the NTT DATA Group, operates CAFIS\u00ae, Japan\u2019s largest card payment processing network connecting acquirers, issuers, merchants, and ATMs nationwide.<br \/>&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>\nUnder the MoU, NIPL and NTT DATA Japan will explore integrating UPI across merchants acquired by NTT DATA.<\/p>\n<p>Once implemented, Indian tourists will be able to pay by scanning QR codes using their preferred UPI apps, eliminating the need for cash or foreign card transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Between January and August 2025, more than 208,000 Indian visitors travelled to Japan\u2014a 36% increase over the same period in 2024. This surge stresses the growing demand for familiar and secure payment methods among Indian travellers, while offering Japanese merchants a chance to capture new business.<\/p>\n<p>Ritesh Shukla, MD &amp; CEO of NPCI International, said, \u201cThe MoU with NTT DATA lays the foundation for enabling UPI acceptance in Japan.
