Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Manoj Kumar Oraon on Tuesday was reportedly attacked by TMC workers while distributing flood relief material in Kumargram, a day after a BJP MP was attacked in Jalpaiguri in an incident that attracted Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s ire.<\/p>\n

Oraon claimed he was attacked by TMC workers in his constituency of Kumargram in West Bengal\u2019s Alipurduar district while distributing relief materials in the wake of recent floods. As per the latest information available, he had reached the hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n

Taking to their official X handle, West Bengal BJP wrote, \u201cIn Mamata Banerjee\u2019s rule, even showing empathy for people\u2019s suffering has become a crime! BJP workers and central forces, along with MLA Manoj Kumar Oraon, came under attack. The Trinamool Congress doesn\u2019t understand the language of humanity \u2014 they only understand the politics of terror.”<\/p>\n

The party also shared visuals of the MLA being taken to the hospital, along with vandalised vehicles in Kumargram.<\/p>\n

This came after BJP MP Khagen Murmu sustained injuries after being attacked while distributing relief materials to flood-affected communities. The stone-pelting attack occurred in Jalpaiguri\u2019s Nagrakata area, as Murmu and BJP MLA Dr Shankar Ghosh were on the ground assisting victims of recent heavy rains, floods, and landslides.<\/p>\n

BJP leaders have alleged that the attack was orchestrated by members of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). \u201cTMC\u2019s Jungle Raj in Bengal! BJP MP Khagen Murmu, a respected tribal leader and two-time MP from North Malda, was attacked by TMC goons while on his way to help with relief and rescue efforts,” BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya posted on X.<\/p>\n

PM Modi Condemns Attack<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Prime Minister Modi strongly condemned the attack on Murmu and Ghosh, calling it \u201coutright appalling” and a reflection of the state\u2019s \u201cpathetic law and order situation” in West Bengal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe manner in which our Party colleagues, including a sitting MP and MLA, were attacked in West Bengal for serving the people affected by floods and landslides is outright appalling. It highlights the insensitivity of the TMC as well as the absolutely pathetic law and order situation in the state,” he said on X.<\/p>\n

He criticised the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government, saying, \u201cI wish the West Bengal Government and TMC were more focused on helping people rather than indulging in violence in such a challenging situation.”<\/p>\n

Mamata Banerjee Meets Khagen Murmu<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday visited Khagen Murmu in a hospital in Siliguri, where both BJP leaders were admitted after the assault. She had earlier defended TMC from accusations of inciting the attack, saying the BJP leaders had gone to the flood-affected areas without informing the local police or administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is unfortunate and deeply concerning that the Prime Minister of India has chosen to politicise a natural disaster without waiting for a proper investigation, especially while people in North Bengal are grappling with the aftermath of devastating floods and landslides,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PM has blamed the TMC and the West Bengal Government outright without a shred of verified evidence, legal inquiry, or administrative report. This is not just a political low, it is a breach of the constitutional ethos the Prime Minister has sworn to uphold. In any democracy, the law must take its own course, and only due process can determine culpability \u2013 not a tweet from a political pulpit,” she said, adding that the incident took place in an area where a BJP MLA was elected.<\/p>\n

Despite the attack, BJP leaders have vowed to continue their relief operations in flood-hit areas. The heavy monsoon rains in North Bengal have caused widespread devastation, with landslides, flash floods, and property damage, displacing thousands of residents.<\/p>\n
