BJP MP Attacked During Flood Relief Work in Bengal<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

In a shocking incident in North Bengal, BJP MP Khagen Murmu sustained injuries after being attacked while distributing relief materials to flood-affected communities. The stone-pelting attack occurred in Jalpaiguri\u2019s Nagrakata area, as Murmu and BJP MLA Dr Shankar Ghosh were on the ground assisting victims of recent heavy rains, floods, and landslides.<\/p>\n

BJP alleges TMC involvement<\/strong><\/h4>\n

BJP leaders have alleged that the attack was orchestrated by members of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). \u201cTMC\u2019s Jungle Raj in Bengal! BJP MP Khagen Murmu, a respected tribal leader and two-time MP from North Malda, was attacked by TMC goons while on his way to help with relief and rescue efforts,” BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya posted on X.<\/p>\n

Malviya criticised the state government, saying, \u201cWhile Mamata Banerjee dances at her Kolkata Carnival, the TMC and state administration are missing in action. Those actually helping the people, BJP leaders and karyakartas, are being attacked for doing relief work. This is TMC\u2019s Bengal, where cruelty rules and compassion is punished.”<\/p>\n

Speaking about the incident, TMC leader and Minister of North Bengal Development said, \u201cPeople who attacked did not carry any flag . BJP tried to instigate people against Mamata Banerjee, those people now have reacted against this people.”<\/p>\n

Suvendu Adhikari, leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, condemned the attacks, describing the situation as an intimidation tactic by the ruling party. \u201cMP Khagen Murmu was brutally attacked and has been left with bloody injuries in Nagrakata today when he was accompanying BJP President Samik Bhattacharya to the flood-affected areas,” he stated.<\/p>\n

Adhikari further alleged that Mamata Banerjee\u2019s focus on public events in Kolkata had left North Bengal vulnerable. He claimed that the TMC deployed supporters from the \u2018Special Community\u2019 to prevent BJP leaders from providing aid to flood victims. \u201cMamata Banerjee, you can\u2019t intimidate BJP. Our MPs and MLAs were on the ground providing relief while her government failed to act,” he added.<\/p>\n

Condemning the attack, TMC leader, Kunal Ghosh said, \u201cTMC does not endorse such violent activity, what happened today is reaction to their (BJP) own act nothing else. They have not taken any relief material they went there for photo. They generally do not stand with people in distress that\u2019s why people have reacted.”<\/p>\n

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar called CM Banerjee a \u201cfailed” Chief Minister. His post on X reads, \u201cFailed Chief Minister Smt. Mamata Banerjee, who, even after receiving news yesterday of the catastrophic devastation in North Bengal and the tragic loss of many lives, was seen celebrating on the Carnival stage at Red Road, has clearly shown how fearful she has become of the BJP West Bengal workers and leaders who have been tirelessly conducting rescue and relief operations on the ground since yesterday. The people of Bengal will never forget this cowardice and shamelessness.”<\/p>\n

He further said, \u201cThe way our MPs, MLAs, and state leaders have been attacked shows that there is no democracy left in West Bengal. Today, even the BJP team that went for relief work is being politicized by TMC. TMC has used Bangladeshis and Muslims to attack our MPs and MLAs. Mamata Banerjee has created a terrifying situation\u2026 I feel this was done as part of a complete plan. The CM is also aware of it; I believe such a major incident could not have happened without the CM\u2019s knowledge. TMC has completely gone bankrupt in North Bengal. Mamata Banerjee knows that the people of North Bengal are angry with her\u2026 By attacking Khagen Murmu in this manner today, they are trying to divert attention from it.”<\/p>\n

Calling the attack planned and heinous, Raju Bista said, \u201c<\/span>These leaders are visiting the landslide hit areas in Dooars, and were on a humanitarian mission. Such heinous and planned attack on elected representatives of the people, will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the attack, BJP leaders have vowed to continue their relief operations in flood-hit areas. The heavy monsoon rains in North Bengal have caused widespread devastation, with landslides, flash floods, and property damage, displacing thousands of residents.<\/p>\n
