As India embraces the global art of tablescaping<\/a>, the focus has shifted from ornate abundance to curated maximalism \u2013 a style that\u2019s expressive but never chaotic, luxurious but grounded.<\/p>\n

As Meghna Bhimrajka, Founder of Studio Maison Malabar, puts it, the mood this year is \u201ccurated maximalism” \u2013 a phrase that perfectly captures the balance between abundance and intention.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s layered, expressive, yet purposeful. It\u2019s less about clutter and more about visual storytelling. Every platter, flower, and accent has meaning, allowing hosts to blend heritage finds with modern pieces,” says Bhimrajka.<\/p>\n

Tablescapes, she adds, are moving away from formulaic symmetry toward storytelling through texture and form. \u201cImagine handcrafted ceramics paired with sculptural serveware, taper candles at different heights, and delicate floral trails that feel organic rather than ornate,” she explains.<\/p>\n

Blending Worlds: Global Aesthetics, Indian Soul<\/h4>\n

Today\u2019s hosts are also more well-travelled and design-aware, effortlessly merging international influences with Indian festive sensibilities. \u201cYou\u2019ll often see Scandinavian restraint and Japanese minimalism meeting earthy Indian materials. Mediterranean influences \u2013 like olive motifs and terracotta \u2013 also find their way to Indian brunches and sundowner setups,” says Bhimrajka. The result is a global table rooted in Indian warmth.<\/p>\n

A Personal Style Statement<\/h4>\n

Anandita Kothari, Founder of Plate & Peonie, believes tablescaping has evolved into an extension of personal style \u2013 much like fashion. \u201cPeople are spending more time and effort setting up their tables. Gone are the days when tablescapes were an afterthought. Today, the intimate details are what guests appreciate,” she says.<\/p>\n

Kothari observes that younger hosts are mixing and matching rather than investing in full collections. \u201cThey\u2019ll pair an heirloom bowl with something they picked up on their travels or a DIY floral arrangement. It\u2019s about expressing individuality rather than perfection,” she notes.<\/p>\n

Texture, Colour, and Conscious Design<\/h4>\n

Colour stories are shifting too \u2013 from predictable reds and golds to softer, moodier palettes. \u201cThink sage, blush, rust, and ivory with subtle metallics. Golds now appear as highlights on cutlery or glass rims rather than dominating the theme,” Bhimrajka shares.<\/p>\n

Both experts agree that tactility defines today\u2019s tablescapes \u2013 woven linens, hammered metal accents, and artisanal ceramics are key. Sustainability, too, is finding its place at the table.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaterials like rattan, wicker, and bamboo are seeing huge demand. They\u2019re stylish, timeless, and planet-friendly,” adds Kothari.<\/p>\n

The modern Indian table is a reflection of its host \u2013 creative, conscious, and culturally confident. Every layer tells a story, every element evokes a connection. In 2025, entertaining at home isn\u2019t about extravagance; it\u2019s about emotion, craftsmanship, and the quiet art of making guests feel seen.<\/p>\n
