Sunjay Kapur\u2019s sister Mandira Kapur Smith says Priya Sachdev broke his marriage with Karisma Kapoor and reveals family disapproval.<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

The Kapur family feud after Karisma Kapoor\u2019s ex-husband, industrialist Sunjay Kapur\u2019s death<\/a>, has taken another turn. As reports of a massive inheritance dispute make headlines, Sunjay\u2019s sister, Mandira Kapur Smith, has spoken out \u2014 accusing his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, of being the reason behind his separation from actress Karisma Kapoor.<\/p>\n

In an interview with journalist Vickey Lalwani, Mandira recalled the time her brother\u2019s marriage began to fall apart, saying she had known about Sunjay\u2019s growing closeness with Priya and had never approved of it.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t break up a family”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mandira said, \u201cI had known about them (Priya and Sunjay) since they met on that flight, and I wasn\u2019t happy about it. Lolo (Karisma) and my brother were in a good place, actually. Kian was born. My brother was obsessed with his kids.”<\/p>\n

She continued, \u201cI think for another woman to not care about a woman who\u2019s just had a child is in bad taste. To come and disrupt a family is in bad taste\u2026 You don\u2019t break up a happy marriage, or even one that\u2019s trying to work. When you\u2019ve just had another child, you step aside. You don\u2019t destroy a marriage. And Lolo did not deserve that.”<\/p>\n

\u201cOur father was against it”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mandira revealed that her entire family, including their late father, was opposed to Sunjay\u2019s relationship with Priya. \u201cDad was totally against Priya. He said, \u2018He can never marry her. I don\u2019t ever want to see her face. And they can\u2019t have children.\u2019 Nobody in the family stood by them. I did it because I love my brother, but for me, Lolo had the children, she had everything. They should have made it work.”<\/p>\n

She added that she and her sister skipped Sunjay and Priya\u2019s 2017 wedding. \u201cMy sister and I didn\u2019t even go for the wedding. We were very clear that we could not support it because Dad had said, \u2018Do not get married and do not have kids.\u2019”<\/p>\n

\u201cKarisma was my best friend”<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mandira also admitted that she regrets not being there for Karisma during that difficult time. \u201cWe weren\u2019t actually talking then\u2026 I think she was upset with me, and I don\u2019t blame her. I feel bad because she was my best friend. I should have stood up for her.”<\/p>\n

Sunjay Kapur death<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sunjay Kapur died on 12 June 2025 after a tragic incident during a polo match at Windsor\u2019s Guards Polo Club. While playing in the semi-final of the Queen\u2019s Cup, he accidentally swallowed a bee, which is believed to have stung him in the mouth or throat. The sting triggered a severe allergic reaction, leading to a fatal heart attack. He was 53 years old at the time. Sunjay Kapur is survived by his wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, a Delhi-based model-turned-entrepreneur, whom he married in 2017. The couple shared a son, Azarias Kapur, born in December 2018, now aged 6. He is also survived by his two children from his marriage to Karisma Kapoor (2003\u20132016): Samaira Kapur, aged 20 and Kiaan Raj Kapur, aged 14.<\/p>\n
