After stirring the hornet\u2019s nest over her \u2018Azad Kashmir\u2019 reference on live commentary during the ongoing Women\u2019s ODI World Cup 2025, Former Pakistan captain Sana Mir issued a clarification after the politically sensitive comment took social media by storm.<\/p>\n

While commentating on Pakistan\u2019s match against Bangladesh in Colombo on Thursday, Mir referred to batter Natalia Pervaiz as being from \u2018Kashmir\u2019 before correcting herself to \u2018Azad Kashmir\u2019. The slip quickly went viral on social media, sparking accusations of politicising the broadcast.<\/p>\n

In response, Mir clarified her intentions on social media, expressing regret over the situation being blown out of proportion. She explained her comment was meant to highlight Pervaiz\u2019s challenging journey from a specific region in Pakistan.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy comment about a Pakistan player\u2019s hometown was only meant to highlight the challenges she faced of coming from a certain region in Pakistan and her incredible journey. It is part of the storytelling we do as commentators as where the players come from,” Mir wrote in a socia media post.<\/p>\n

Mir emphasised there was no political motive behind her words and urged others not to politicise her commentary.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did that today for two other players coming from other regions, too. Please don\u2019t politicise it. As a commentator on the World Feed, we are meant to focus on the sport, teams, and players, highlighting inspiring stories of grit and perseverance. There is no malice in my heart or any intention to hurt sentiments,” she added.<\/p>\n
