In a major development, the BCCI intends to push for the impeachment of Mohsin Naqvi from his role as President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The demand follows a series of allegations citing breaches of sporting protocols and questions around his impartiality and conduct in the aftermath of India\u2019s Asia Cup triumph in Dubai.<\/p>\n

News18 has learnt that India will explicitly call for Naqvi\u2019s removal, asserting that he violated the core responsibilities expected of an ACC President.<\/p>\n

Central to the controversy is an incident in Dubai where Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan\u2019s Interior Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), reportedly took the Asia Cup trophy and medals without following established ceremonial protocols.<\/p>\n

India has raised concerns that this act undermines the integrity of ACC tournaments and breaches principles of neutrality and fair conduct.<\/p>\n

India\u2019s position highlights that Naqvi\u2019s dual roles create an inherent conflict of interest, politicising cricket administration and contradicting ACC\u2019s requirement for impartial governance. His actions in Dubai, carried out in the capacity of Pakistan\u2019s Interior Minister rather than as ACC Chief, are seen as an infringement on the rights of India as the tournament champions, denying them the rightful handover of the trophy.<\/p>\n

Top government sources reveal that the India plans to report the alleged trophy theft to UAE authorities and insists that Naqvi\u2019s conduct warrants an official probe. They argue that his behavior not only disrespected the winning team but also set a dangerous precedent of politicised discrimination against member nations.<\/p>\n

This, they claim, damages the reputation of both the ACC and the International Cricket Council (ICC), potentially harming relationships with sponsors, broadcasters, and the broader image of cricket as a sport above politics.<\/p>\n

As the ACC\u2019s largest financial contributor, India, along with potentially other neutral cricket boards, intends to argue that Naqvi has lost the moral authority to lead the council. They propose that a vote of no-confidence or an impeachment motion is necessary to restore credibility and maintain the integrity of cricket administration in Asia.<\/p>\n

The BCCI informed Naqvi that the Indian players were not keen on receiving the trophy directly from him. The Indian cricket board had requested that the trophy and medals be handed over by an Emirati official instead, but Naqvi declined. He waited briefly, then left the venue with the trophy.<\/p>\n

According to sources, the trophy is currently at the Emirates Cricket Board headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The UAE cricket authorities intend to return it to the Indian team at the earliest opportunity.<\/p>\n
