The day allows devotees to dedicate that time for auspicious celebrations, perform kanya puja, and offer prayers to Goddess Durga.<\/p>\n

  1. Invite nine young girls (between 2 and 10 years old) to your homes.<\/li>\n
  2. Then, wash their feet with water, wipe them, and place them on a pedestal.<\/li>\n
  3. After this, tie a holy thread (Kalawa or moli) around their wrists and apply vermilion to their foreheads.<\/li>\n
  4. Following this, offer a variety of special dishes such as poori, chana, ghee halwa, coconut, sweets, and kheer to the young girls.<\/li>\n
  5. Once done, offer them money or gifts such as new dresses, bangles, and study materials.<\/li>\n
  6. Complete the puja by touching their feet and taking their blessings.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    To conclude the nine-day-long festival, a special puja is performed in honour of Goddess Durga.<\/p>\n
