India captain Harmanpreet Kaur believes her team\u2019s growing all-round depth gives them a \u201chigh chance” of winning the Women\u2019s Cricket World Cup 2025, which begins Tuesday.<\/p>\n

India have twice reached the ODI World Cup final \u2014 in 2005 and again in 2017, when they fell agonisingly short against England by nine runs at Lord\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Since then, the side has undergone significant transformation, even if the 2022 campaign ended in disappointment with Australia lifting a record seventh title.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndia, I mean, we do have a high chance to be honest,” Kaur said on the eve of the tournament.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not just saying because we have the advantage of playing at home, but the amount of cricket we have played and the results we have got in the last couple of years\u2026 that shows we have depth in our game, whether it\u2019s batting or bowling.”<\/p>\n

Despite a recent 2-1 ODI series defeat to Australia at home, India showcased batting firepower led by Smriti Mandhana, while young seamer Kranti Goud impressed with five wickets across the three matches.<\/p>\n

Kaur, captaining India for the first time in a World Cup, stressed the value of home support.<\/p>\n

\u201cHome conditions and a home World Cup are always very special. I am sure fans are going to come here and support us\u2026 together, we\u2019ll try to create a special memory.”<\/p>\n

Co-hosts India will face Sri Lanka in the opening match in Guwahati.<\/p>\n

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu also acknowledged India\u2019s favourites tag but insisted her team would play without pressure.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndia is the favourite in this World Cup\u2026 they know the conditions and will have the spectators behind them. But I plan to play our best cricket in front of everyone without taking too much pressure,” she said.<\/p>\n

As part of the schedule, Pakistan will play all their matches in Colombo, a compromise ensuring both India and Pakistan compete at neutral venues in multi-nation tournaments.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the final is slated for November 2.<\/p>\n
