Speaking to Local 18, Satna-based veterinarian Dr. Brihaspati Bharti explained that several indigenous breeds in India are top milk producers, including the Sahiwal, Gir, Haryana, Tharparkar, and Dunni. Among these, the Sahiwal and Gir breeds are considered the leaders. (Local18)<\/p>\n

These cows can produce up to 14 to 15 litres of milk at a time. Furthermore, their milk falls under the A2 category, which is more beneficial for health. The Gir breed originates from Gujarat, while the Sahiwal is a popular breed from Punjab. Both breeds are well-suited to the Indian climate and exhibit strong disease resistance. (Local18)<\/p>\n

Dr. Bharti elaborated that among foreign breeds, cows like the Holstein Friesian (HF), Jersey, and Holstein Friesian-Cross are considered the highest milk producers, with the HF breed holding the highest record, capable of producing up to 20 litres of milk at a time. (Local18)<\/p>\n

This explains the high demand for these breeds on large dairy farms and in commercial milk production. Dr. Bharti also noted that a new breed has been developed in Brazil by genetically modifying the Gir cow, which can produce 15 to 25 litres of milk. (Local18)<\/p>\n
