Sales of air conditioners and TV sets have risen after new GST rates<\/a> came into effect on September 22, with buyers rushing to grab discounts ahead of Navratri.<\/p>\n

Initially, vehicle showrooms witnessed large crowds, with Maruti and Hyundai setting sales records. Similar scenes were observed at electronics stores.<\/p>\n

Electronics equipment dealers reported that room air conditioners (RACs), which previously attracted a 28 percent GST<\/a>, now benefit from a reduced rate of 18 percent. This reduction prompted a near doubling of sales on the first day itself. <\/p>\n

N.S. Satish, President of Haier India, stated, \u201cInitial trends are very encouraging. By 5 pm, our dealers have reported sales almost double compared to any other Monday.”<\/p>\n

Blue Star Managing Director B. Thiagarajan remarked, \u201cJudging by customer inquiries, I believe they are quite enthusiastic. We estimate this growth to be approximately 20 percent compared to September last year. Major sales by e-commerce players begin today, and many consumers will be checking prices before making a purchase decision. Many of our dealers have reported increased sales on the first day of Navratri itself.”<\/p>\n

Avneet Singh Marwah, CEO of Super Plastronics Private Limited (SPPL), stated that sales of global brands like Thomson, Kodak, and Blaupunkt are expected to rise. He added that sales jumped 30\u201335% on the first day of the new GST rates. TVs sold through Flipkart, particularly 43-inch and 55-inch models, also saw a 35% increase.<\/p>\n

Dealers selling home appliances anticipate that sales of electronic appliances will double by Diwali compared to 2024. They mentioned that sales had nearly come to a standstill until Monday, as people were expecting goods to become cheaper due to the new GST rates. <\/p>\n

Typically, around 35 percent of the entire year\u2019s sales occur during the festive season, and with the GST reduction, it is estimated that sales could increase to 60 to 70 percent this time.<\/p>\n
