Joe Root entered his name in the history books on Sunday (August 3) by breaking the record for scoring the most centuries in home Tests. Root\u2019s century in the second innings of the ongoing fifth India-England Test at The Oval is his 24th Test century in England, which is one more than Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis, and Mahela Jayawardene\u2019s tally of 23 Test centuries at home.<\/p>\n

Root completed his century by taking two runs on the first ball of the 69th over of England\u2019s second innings bowled by Akash Deep in the third session of the fourth day\u2019s play at The Oval.<\/p>\n

The century in the fifth Test also helped Root break Jack Hobbs\u2019 record of scoring 12 Test centuries against one team for England. During his playing days, Hobbs scored 12 Test centuries for England against Australia, and Root now has 13 centuries to his credit against India in Tests.<\/p>\n

Only Don Bradman has scored more centuries against one team in Tests now than Root.<\/p>\n
