Prime Minister Narendra Modi<\/a>, while addressing the nation on Sunday ahead of the implementation of GST 2.0, said that people will save Rs 2.5 lakh crore with the combined benefit of the goods and services tax (GST) cuts and the earlier Income Tax reduction.<\/p>\n

PM Modi congratulated people for the GST bachat Utsav (Savings festival) kicking off on September 22 \u2014 the first day of Navratri. \u201cGST Bachat Utsav would lead to savings and people will be able to purchase things easily,” he said.<\/p>\n

PM Modi said<\/a> that since 2014, GST has been a top priority, saying reforms are continuous and adapt to the nation\u2019s evolving needs. Before the rollout of GST 2.0, goods transported across states in India faced multiple hurdles, including a maze of documentation, numerous check posts, and differing tax systems at every location, said the PM in his address. He emphasised that these complexities often slowed business and increased costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe government discussed reforms with all stakeholders and found solutions to problems. Emphasis on collective decision-making to ensure smooth rollout,” said the PM.<\/p>\n

With the implementation of GST 2.0, he said, such challenges would be significantly reduced, making it easier for businesses to transport goods and improving the overall ease of doing business in the country.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s how GST 2.0 will benefit citizens:<\/em><\/p>\n

GST reforms: <\/strong>GST has been simplified into just two slabs \u2014 5% & 18%, making daily essentials and hotel rooms cheaper.<\/p>\n

Relief for citizens: <\/strong>The poor, women, middle class and neo-middle class to get a double bonanza, with easier to buy homes, vehicles and essentials at lower cost<\/a>. \u201cAround 25 crore people play an important role as the neo-middle class,” he said. The PM said the government\u2019s \u201cGST Bachat Utsav” will double festive season happiness and bring a double bonanza for the poor and neo-middle class, making it easier to fulfill their dreams.<\/p>\n

Massive savings: <\/strong>GST and IT reforms together are expected to save people up to Rs 2.5 lakh crore.<\/p>\n

Boost to growth:<\/strong> Reforms will accelerate India\u2019s growth story, make doing business easier, and attract investments.<\/p>\n

Push for Atmanirbhar Bharat:<\/strong> He made a call to buy Made in India<\/a> products, with MSMEs and small industries at the core of building a self-reliant India. \u201cSo many foreign-manufactured things entered our lives \u2014 we need to reduce that.” While warning against the over-dependence on foreign goods, PM Modi urged citizens to support \u201cMade in India” products and reduce dependence on foreign goods, underlining the need for world-class manufacturing standards and important role of small industries, MSMEs, and large companies for self-reliance.<\/p>\n
