At the stroke of lunch on day four of the fifth and last Test of the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at The Oval on Sunday (August 3), Mohammed Siraj raced over to Prasidh Krishna for an apology.<\/p>\n

But why?<\/p>\n

Harry Brook was on 19 runs from 21 balls when he attempted a big shot against Prasidh Krishna on the first ball of the 35th over during England\u2019s second innings.<\/p>\n

However, he failed to make proper contact, and the ball went straight to Mohammed Siraj, positioned near the boundary ropes.<\/p>\n

Siraj, one of the best fielders in the Indian team, clearly caught the ball but lost his balance and touched the boundary rope with the ball in his hand. The shot that should have resulted in Brook\u2019s dismissal instead contributed an additional six runs to his score.<\/p>\n

Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna\u2019s early strikes reduced England to 164 for three at lunch on day four of the fifth and final Test on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Joe Root (23) and Harry Brook (38) were at the crease during the break after England resumed the day from an overnight score of 50 for one.<\/p>\n

Ben Duckett made 54 off 83 balls, but Prasidh dismissed him in the first hour, setting England back.<\/p>\n

Stand-in skipper Ollie Pope (27) looked in good form but fell to Siraj, putting England in deeper trouble.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s Next?<\/h2>\n

With five sessions remaining, the touring team leads by a substantial 209 runs and requires seven more wickets to secure a victory that would even the series at 2-2.<\/p>\n

India scored 396 in their second innings on Saturday. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed with a brilliant 118, while Washington Sundar added a rapid 53 late in the day.<\/p>\n

The odds are against the hosts as no team has successfully chased more than England\u2019s 263 to win in the fourth innings of a Test at the Oval, a feat achieved in a one-wicket victory over Australia in 1902.<\/p>\n

However, England did manage to chase down 371 for a five-wicket win in the opener at Headingley.<\/p>\n
