After Homebound\u2019s win at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the movie, starring Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa, has now become India\u2019s official submission to the Oscars, and the team of the film can\u2019t keep calm. While the team of Homebound, including cast and makers, have already shared their reactions about the great news, the leads of the movie, Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, cannot stop celebrating.<\/p>\n

A day after the big announcement, Vishal Jethwa shared a video of celebrating the great news with Ishaan Khatter<\/a>. In the clip, Ishaan and Vishal, smiling brightly, were seen expressing their happiness as the former feeds sweets to the latter. Ishaan, while feeding Vishal, shouts, \u201cOscaarrrsss.” \u201cOscarsssssss \ud83d\udcaa#homebound,” Vishal captioned while posting the reel.<\/p>\n

As soon as Vishal shared the reel, fans started reacting to it. One wrote, \u201cCan\u2019t wait to see you on the red carpet.” \u201cGUJJU BOY FIRE \ud83d\udd25\ud83d\udd25\ud83d\udd25 AND ISSS SAAAAL OSCARS NAMDU TO Homebound,” another fan shared. A third fan wrote, \u201cCongratulations Bhai. You deserve it.” \u201cLoving the energy,” another comment reads.<\/p>\n

Homebound is India\u2019s official entry to the Oscars<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Film Federation of India (FFI), the body responsible for selecting the country\u2019s official entry, confirmed the decision on Friday, news agency PTI reported. With this selection, Homebound will compete alongside submissions from more than 100 nations for a nomination at next year\u2019s Academy Awards.<\/p>\n

So far, only three Indian films\u2014Mother India (1958), Salaam Bombay! (1989), and Lagaan (2002) have secured nominations in this category. None has gone on to win. India\u2019s Oscar triumphs have instead come in open categories, most recently with RRR winning two awards in 2023.<\/p>\n

Though yet to be released in India, Homebound has already made a mark internationally<\/a>. The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where it received a standing ovation. It later travelled to the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, finishing as the second runner-up in the prestigious International People\u2019s Choice Award category.<\/p>\n
