Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday compared former state Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) to US President Donald Trump, saying both leaders ruled with arrogance and unpredictability, but were ultimately rejected by the people.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere used to be a Trump in Telangana too. But the people of Telangana have rejected him,” Reddy said, without naming KCR directly.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnyone who rules a government as he pleases will be a Trump,” the Chief Minister added.<\/p>\n

KCR served as the CM of Telangana for two consecutive terms \u2014 first taking office on June 2, 2014, the day the state was formed, and then winning re-election in 2018. He remained in power till the Congress defeated his party in the 2023 elections.<\/p>\n

Speaking at an event, Reddy extended his criticism beyond the state, taking aim at US President Trump as well. He called Trump as someone who \u201cthinks of something at night but does the opposite the next day.”<\/p>\n

\u201cThis kind of leadership will not last. It may cause problems for a while, but people will overcome it,” he said, adding that such impulsive decisions could hurt the United States more than anyone else.<\/p>\n

Reddy pointed out that if the US continues to make it harder for Indian students to get visas or admissions, top global institutions may look to India instead.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they are reluctant to give visas, if they are reluctant to give admissions to Indians, all those institutes are going to come to India,” he claimed. \u201cI spoke to Harvard, I spoke to Stanford. I have initiated talks. Next month, I\u2019m going to join Harvard to learn something. I have invited them.”<\/p>\n

Reddy further criticised Trump\u2019s inconsistent stance on India. \u201cOne day Trump calls Modi his friend, the next day he imposes 50 percent tariffs,” he said.<\/p>\n

Upset over India\u2019s oil trade with Russia, Trump had imposed an extra 25% tariff on Indian imports, raising the total duties to 50% when combined with previously announced reciprocal tariffs.<\/p>\n
