Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following the Karnataka High Court\u2019s decision to invalidate the election of Congress MLA KY Nanjegowda from the Malur constituency in Kolar district.<\/p>\n

In a strongly worded post on X on Tuesday, Ashoka taunted Gandhi and demanded he speak up about the alleged electoral misconduct by his party in Malur.<\/p>\n

\u201cWill @RahulGand now come to Malur to campaign against the vote theft by CongressAs?” Ashoka wrote.<\/p>\n

The senior BJP leader ended his post with a direct accusation, \u201cWhere is the vote thief? In the Congress legislative party!”<\/p>\n

Ashoka\u2019s comments come after a major development earlier in the day, when the Karnataka High Court set aside the election of Nanjegowda, ordering a recount of votes from the 2023 Assembly elections. The court found merit in a petition filed by BJP candidate KS Manjunath Gowda, who had narrowly lost to Nanjegowda and alleged serious irregularities in the counting process.<\/p>\n

The court criticised the conduct of the District Election Officer and noted that video footage of the vote counting had not been submitted. It has ordered action against the officer and directed that the recount be completed within four weeks.<\/p>\n

However, Nanjegowda has been granted interim relief. Acting on a plea by his legal team, the High Court has stayed its own order for 30 days, allowing the Congress MLA time to approach the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n

If the apex court does not intervene within that period, Nanjegowda\u2019s election will stand invalidated, and his seat will be vacated.<\/p>\n
