External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday said there was nothing new in India and United States not being on the same page on Pakistan. Speaking in Rajya Sabha during the Operation Sindoor debate<\/a>, Jaishankar pointed out earlier instances of US and India having differences over Pakistan.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is no secret that when it comes to Pakistan, our thought process is different from that of the US, and this is not new. Historically, we have had a different view, we have had a different policy and different interests,” Jaishankar said, adding that Pakistan has been a problem between India and US.<\/p>\n

Jaishankar emphasised previous Indian governments, too, have had differences with America over Pakistan, pointing out \u201cI was in the room when America was taking up the case of General Musharraf and asking for concessions on Kashmir.”<\/p>\n

He added that on this issue, India has a national policy. \u201cNo mediation is a national policy, bilateral dealing is a national policy. I hope no talks with terror will also be a national policy,” Jaishankar said.<\/p>\n

Jaishankar\u2019s statement came a day after Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi hit out at the Narendra Modi government on US President Donald Trump\u2019s lunch with Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir in America.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile our delegation is going around telling the world that Pakistan is carrying out terrorism, POTUS is having lunch with Asim Munir. Which planet is our foreign minister from,” Gandhi had said during the Operation Sindoor debate in Lok Sabha on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThe mind behind Pahalgam is Asim Munir, and he is having lunch with Trump\u2026 Mr Trump has broken all protocol and inviting the man who committed terrorism in India\u2026. \u00a0the POTUS said he invited Munir to thank him for not escalating the war.”<\/p>\n

\u201cNot a single country condemned Pakistan but only condemned terrorism. This shows the mindset of these people,” he said.<\/p>\n
