Taylor Swift\u2019s name has resurfaced in the ongoing legal battle between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. The singer may be asked to give a deposition, although her lawyer has emphasised that she does not wish to participate. In a letter to Judge Lewis Liman, Swift\u2019s attorney stated that she has \u201cno material role” in the case and has never agreed to be involved.<\/p>\n

The letter reiterated that Swift<\/a>\u2019s team has consistently maintained her position. However, it added that if she is ultimately \u201cforced” to testify, she will make herself available during the week of October 20.<\/p>\n

Taylor Swift Has No Role In The Lawsuit<\/strong><\/p>\n

As per the letter obtained by People, Swift\u2019s lawyer, Doug Baldridge, mentioned that the singer \u201cdid not agree” to testify and has \u201cno material role” in Blake and Baldoni\u2019s case. Swift\u2019s team said they just found out a few days ago that she might be asked to give a deposition in the legal case. They explained that the singer is not involved in the arguments between the other parties and \u201ctakes no role in those disputes.”<\/p>\n

Baldridge added, \u201cFurther, my client did not agree to a deposition, but if she is forced into a deposition, we advised (after first hearing about the deposition just three days ago) that her schedule would accommodate the time required during the week of October 20 if the parties were able to work out their disputes.”<\/p>\n

Justin Baldoni\u2019s Lawyers Claim Taylor Swift Agreed To Testify<\/strong><\/p>\n

As per Variety reports, on September 11, Justin Baldoni\u2019s lawyers submitted a letter saying that Taylor Swift had agreed to give a deposition sometime between October 20 and October 25. That same day, Blake Lively\u2019s legal team sent a separate letter to Wayfarer Studios after the company asked for more time in the case to schedule Swift\u2019s deposition.<\/p>\n

According to Lively\u2019s layer, Michael Gottlieb, \u201cIn this latest effort, the Wayfarer Defendants assert \u2014 though, notably, without evidence \u2014that Ms. Swift has supposedly \u2018agreed\u2019 to sit for a deposition sometime between October 20-25 (some three weeks after the close of fact discovery in this matter). Yet, even if one were to take the Wayfarer Defendants\u2019 representation at face value, they have not come close to establishing good cause for their requested relief.”<\/p>\n

Blake Lively\u2019s lawyers further explained that Justin Baldoni\u2019s team had first requested Taylor Swift\u2019s testimony back in May, which got a lot of media attention, but later withdrew that request. Now, they say Baldoni\u2019s team is trying to involve Swift again at the last moment without sending a new official request or giving a clear reason. They also mentioned that Swift is not part of the lawsuit and has a very busy schedule, as her 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, is set to be released on October 3. Her team will need plenty of time to plan.<\/p>\n
