Union Minister JP Nadda on Wednesday gave a strong response to the opposition\u2019s remarks on \u201clack of political will” from the day before during the \u2018Operation Sindoor\u2019 debate in Parliament.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nadda\u2019s blistering attack was focused on the alleged inaction against terror of previous UPA governments. He said the Congress-led regime had failed to tackle repeated terror strikes on a war footing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking in the Rajya Sabha during the ongoing monsoon session, he accused the Congress of continuing with confidence-building measures even when these attacks came from Pakistan.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile they kept firing bullets at us, we went ahead to offer them biryani,” Nadda said, referring to how the government allegedly fed biryani to 26\/11 perpetrator Ajmal Kasab in jail. \u201c\u2026we need to understand the limits of their (then Congress govt) appeasement that after 2008 Jaipur bomb blasts by Indian Mujahideen, India and Pakistan agreed on a specific confidence-building measures\u2026they gave permission for a triple-entry permit to cross LoC (Line of Control)\u2026”<\/span><\/p>\n

Nadda further alleged that the UPA did not take strong steps after major attacks like the 2005 Delhi blasts, the 2006 Varanasi and Mumbai train bombings. He said despite these incidents, trade and tourism with Pakistan continued.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026The then government took no action in 2005 Delhi Serial bomb blasts, 2006 Varanasi terror attack, 2006 Mumbai local trains bomb blasts\u2026the point is \u2013 terror and trade and tourism continued between India and Pakistan then,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018HAD SAME POLICE & ARMY BUT NO POLITICAL WILL\u2019<\/h4>\n

Nadda took a page out of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi\u2019s book and blamed the UPA regime for \u201clacking political will”. Albeit, in a different context.<\/span><\/p>\n

During an intense discussion on \u2018Operation Sindoor\u2019 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday (July 30), Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi severely criticised <\/span>the central government for \u201clacking political will” in its actions against Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack.<\/span><\/p>\n

The BJP president, meanwhile, pointed out that at the 2009 Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, there was no mention of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, and blamed a lack of political will at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n

” \u2026we had the same police, army, but there was no political will\u2026at the 2009 SCO Summit, there was no mention of such a big terror attack in 2008,” he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The BJP president said before 2014, India lacked the political will to strengthen border security and fight terrorism. He referred to past statements by former defence and home ministers, claiming one of them said \u201cundeveloped borders are safer” while another admitted being afraid to visit Kashmir.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said from 2014 to 2025, terror attacks in India had stopped, except in Jammu and Kashmir. \u201c..A former defence minister had said, \u2018India has a policy that the best defence is to not develop the borders. Undeveloped border is safer than developed border\u2019\u2026a former home minister had said, \u2018Mujhe Kashmir jaane mein darr lagta hai\u2019\u2026we had lived in darkness in this country. From 2014-2025, terror attacks stopped in the country except in Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nadda also spoke about the surgical strikes after the 2016 Uri attack as a shining example of strong political will of the BJP-led NDA government. He said it was the first time since 1947 that a Prime Minister publicly declared that those behind a terror attack will not be spared.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026Talking about Uri surgical strikes..It was the first time after 1947 that the Indian PM came on record and said that the perpetrators of the (Uri) attack will not be spared\u2026And within 3 days, surgical strikes were conducted and terror launching pads were destroyed\u2026This is the changing India\u2026See the political will in comparison to those who said that we will see what to do,” he added.<\/span><\/p>\n
