Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, accompanied by his wife, offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi on Friday, the third day of his state visit to India.\u00a0According to an official statement, Ramgoolam and his family performed rituals at the shrine, with Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and State Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna also present during the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Earlier on Friday, Ramgoolam offered prayers at the Ram temple. On his arrival in Varanasi, he was welcomed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. UP Cabinet Minister Surya Pratap Shahi too welcomed Ramgoolam and said, “A large number of people from Uttar pradesh and Bihar went to Mauritius during British rule and are in the mainstream there.They have kept the cultural identity of India alive there. We welcome the Prime Minister of Mauritius in Ayodhya.” Earlier in the day he visited the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.

Ramgoolam is currently on a state visit to India from September 9 to September 16. He held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Following the meeting, the visiting leader attended the iconic Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, a highlight of his Varanasi schedule. The ceremony, conducted by seven priests, was relocated to the terrace of the Ganga Seva Nidhi premises due to rising water levels in the river, its president Sushant Mishra confirmed.<\/p>\n

The Prime Minister and his delegation also took part in a river cruise on river Ganga, offering them panoramic views of the crescent-shaped ghats lit up in the evening. Governor Patel and Minister Khanna greeted Ramgoolam with an \u2018angavastram\u2019 before the rituals commenced, the statement added.<\/p>\n

Ramgoolam\u2019s visit to Varanasi is part of his wider India tour aimed at strengthening cultural and diplomatic ties between the two nations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
