The government recently cut GST on about 400 items, reducing the GST on packaged milk from 5% to 0%. This led to reports suggesting that milk prices may fall from September 22, with several media reports claiming that brands like Amul<\/a> and Mother Dairy might lower their rates by up to Rs 4 per litre.<\/p>\n

However, Amul has refuted these claims, stating that their milk prices will not decrease after September 22. According to Amul, the GST on packed milk is already zero, hence there will be no price reduction.<\/p>\n

According to news agency ANI, Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), said, \u201cThere is no change in the prices of fresh pouch milk, as GST on it has always been zero.” <\/p>\n

He added that the government has reduced the GST on ultra-high temperature (UHT) milk from 5% to 0%, meaning only UHT milk will become cheaper starting September 22.<\/p>\n

What Is UHT Milk?<\/h2>\n

UHT stands for ultra-high temperature. UHT milk is heated to at least 135\u00b0C (275\u00b0F) for a few seconds, eliminating almost all microorganisms and resulting in a sterile product. This process, combined with aseptic packaging such as tetra packs, allows UHT milk to remain safe for consumption for several months without refrigeration.<\/p>\n

Currently, Amul Gold (full cream) milk is sold at Rs 69 per litre, and Amul toned milk is available at Rs 57 per litre. Similarly, Mother Dairy\u2019s full cream milk is priced at Rs 69, and toned milk at Rs 57 per litre. Buffalo milk is being sold at Rs 75 per litre, while cow milk is priced at Rs 58 per litre.<\/p>\n
