Shikhar Dhawan has come forward to support the people of Punjab amid the devastating floods (Instagram)<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has shown support for the people of Punjab amid the ongoing floods affecting thousands across the state. In a heartfelt video message on Instagram, Dhawan called for unity and compassion during this challenging time.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the time to stand united. Punjab ko hamari<\/em> strength, compassion aur<\/em> support ki zarurat hai.. Chhoti si madad bhi bahut farq laa sakti hai<\/em> (Punjab needs our strength, compassion and support.. even a small help can make a huge change). Let\u2019s all do our part,” Dhawan wrote on Instagram.<\/em><\/p>\n

In addition to his personal appeal, Dhawan\u2019s NGO, the Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, is actively working on the ground to aid in rehabilitation efforts for flood-affected families. The foundation focuses on helping rebuild lives and providing long-term assistance where it is most needed, according to a press release from Dhawan\u2019s media team.<\/p>\n

His message has received strong support from fans and fellow cricketers, highlighting the importance of compassion and unity in times of crisis.<\/p>\n

PM Modi Announces Financial Assistance<\/h2>\n

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting on Tuesday with senior officials from Punjab to assess the flood damage. He announced a financial assistance package of Rs 1,600 crore for the state, in addition to the Rs 12,000 crore already allocated to Punjab. According to the Prime Minister\u2019s Office, the Centre will also advance the second instalment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.<\/p>\n

PM Modi also interacted with personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) as part of his on-ground assessment of the situation.<\/p>\n

Punjab has witnessed widespread destruction due to heavy rain in recent days. The state government has sought the immediate release of Rs 60,000 crore in funds \u201cstalled” by the Centre, crucial for the recovery of Punjab\u2019s flood-battered economy.<\/p>\n

PM Modi assessed the damage in Gurdaspur and other affected regions. Following this, he held an official review meeting in Gurdaspur with officials and elected representatives, reviewing the relief and rehabilitation measures undertaken and assessing the damage that has occurred in Punjab.<\/p>\n
