Former India pacer Jaydev Unadkat on Tuesday put up a brilliant performance for Sussex, following up his two wickets in Hampshire\u2019s first innings with four more in the second, accompanying the young allrounder James Coles to dismiss their opponents for a paltry 173 in their second innings.<\/p>\n

Hampshire, batting first, were bundled out for 226 in their opening innings, with Unadkat claiming two wickets. Apart from captain Ben Brown, no batter crossed 25, while the 24 extras stood out as the side\u2019s second-highest contributor.<\/p>\n

In response, Sussex were restricted to a paltry 122, with wicketkeeper Tom Alsop leading the effort with a 39-run innings off 75 deliveries.<\/p>\n

Placed sixth in Division One, Sussex needed a standout bowling performance to stay alive in the contest after conceding a 104-run first-innings lead.<\/p>\n

Unadkat gave Sussex a dream start in the second innings, removing Hampshire batter Fletcha Middleton and Nick Gubbins within three deliveries of his opening over.<\/p>\n

Star England pacer Ollie Robinson took the new ball for Sussex, but it was Unadkat who struck first, knocking back Middleton\u2019s off-stump.<\/p>\n

Two deliveries later, Gubbins misjudged a rising ball and gloved it to Coles at gully, leaving Hampshire reeling at 2\/2 by the end of the second over.<\/p>\n

Unadkat came back to claim two of the final three wickets, wrapping up with figures of 4\/50, as Hampshire folded for a paltry 173, setting Sussex a chase of 278.<\/p>\n

Unadkat, who debuted for Sussex two years ago, extended his stay with a two-year deal last season and is contracted with the club until 2026. Watch the video here:<\/p>\n

Before the County Championship, Unadkat was last seen in action for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 in May. He picked 11 wickets in seven matches at an impressive economy of 7.34.<\/p>\n

Unadkat last played a Test against the Windies at Port of Spain in July 2023. His last first-class match was against Gujarat in February in the Ranji Trophy. He picked 22 wickets in eight matches at an economy of 3.41.<\/p>\n
