Neena Gupta and Masaba Gupta share a close bond.<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

Neena Gupta was in a relationship with former West Indies cricketer Vivian Richards during the 1980s. In 1989, she gave birth to Masaba Gupta and raised her as a single mother, after Vivian, who was married at the time, chose not to leave his wife. In 2008, Neena married Vivek Mehra in a private ceremony. Neena is often hailed for being a single mother.<\/p>\n

Today, let us tell you an interesting trivia about her. Back when Masaba was born, her birth certificate was leaked online by a journalist and a magazine ended up publishing that, revealing the father\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n

In an old interview with India Today, Neena had said, \u201cHe sent somebody. So my bua, I was living with my bua, so she went and she submitted. They said come after one week, we\u2019ll give you the birth certificate. So she went after one week and they said, \u2018Wo toh le gaye aapke koi rishtedaar.\u2019 By chance, I knew somebody who knew that person, usse pata chala ke he sent somebody and then he wrote an article. Wo pade likhe log karte hai toh tumhara toh kya bolenge.”<\/p>\n

She addressed the incident on social media again years later. Commenting on an Instagram post shared by Anupam Kher about the same journalist, she wrote, \u201cDo you know, what he did to me, and I called him a bast**d openly. He stole my baby\u2019s birth certificate and published it.”<\/p>\n

It was renowned journalist, poet laureate, parliamentarian and filmmaker, Pritish Nandy who was the one to leak Masaba\u2019s birth certificate. Nandy died on January 8, 2025, at the age of 73, after suffering cardiac arrest at his home. \u201cHe stole my birth certificate from the registrar\u2019s office. And I called him a bastard! It was on the hoardings\u2026 He went and stole! Pritish Nandy,” Neena had said at the time.<\/p>\n
