South Africa all-rounder Codi Yusuf on Sunday, September 7, created a bizarre record to concede the most runs by a Protea bowler on ODI debut, breaking Duanne Olivier\u2019s six-year-old record from 2019. Yusuf\u2019s much-awaited ODI debut, which came after playing two Tests and 27 List A games, didn\u2019t go according to plan.<\/p>\n

At 27, Yusuf earned his first two Test caps on South Africa\u2019s recent tour of Zimbabwe and was later drafted into the ODI team as cover for Kagiso Rabada, who has missed the England series with a niggle.<\/p>\n

Yusuf came in for the rested Lungi Ngidi, while Wiaan Mulder replaced Senuran Muthusamy.<\/p>\n

Yusuf opened the bowling with Nandre Burger and gave away just four runs in his first over. But Ben Duckett smacked him for two boundaries in his second over.<\/p>\n

Yusuf\u2019s economy took a tumble when he came in to bowl his seventh over, as he conceded 11 runs off it, with Jacob Bethell hitting him for two fours. At the end of his spell, Yusuf had conceded 80 runs off his 10 overs, without picking any wickets.<\/p>\n

The debutant broke Olivier\u2019s record, who had conceded 73 runs on his ODI debut against Pakistan in January 2019. But to his credit, he had picked two wickets on that occasion, dismissing a set Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Bethell smashed his first professional hundred as his sublime 110 and a century from ace England batter Joe Root helped the hosts reach a whopping 414\/5 in the third ODI against South Africa on Sunday, September 7.<\/p>\n

Bethell\u2019s vibrant innings featured 13 boundaries and three sixes as he showed why England have been so keen to fast-track him in all formats.<\/p>\n

Bethell went past his previous career-best score of 96 in a Test against New Zealand last year.<\/p>\n

Wreathed in smiles as he hugged Root to celebrate his milestone, Bethell had proved his point.<\/p>\n
