Big Leap: Made-in-India Chips Power Telecom System, Secure TEC Nod<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

In a significant boost to India\u2019s semiconductor ambitions, a telecom system built with indigenously manufactured chips has secured TEC (Telecommunication Engineering Center) certification.<\/p>\n

The announcement came through IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on X, who described the achievement as a \u201cbig leap for India\u2019s semiconductor story.” He noted that for the first time, a telecom system powered by Indian-made chips has successfully cleared all standards and quality tests.<\/p>\n

TEC certification, issued by the Department of Telecommunications\u2019 Telecommunication Engineering Center, validates that the product meets rigorous benchmarks for quality and performance.<\/p>\n

This development is a key milestone in India\u2019s push for self-reliance in technology under the Make in India initiative. It highlights the country\u2019s growing strength in semiconductor design and fabrication while strengthening India\u2019s position as an emerging force in the global telecom and electronics space.<\/p>\n

At Semicon India 2025, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw showcased the Vikram 32-bit processor and test chips from four sanctioned projects to PM Narendra Modi.<\/p>\n

The Vikram chip, developed by ISRO\u2019s Semiconductor Laboratory, is India\u2019s first fully Make-in-India 32-bit microprocessor, engineered to perform reliably under the extreme conditions of launch vehicles.<\/p>\n

As part of its efforts to position India as a global hub for semiconductor innovation and manufacturing,\u00a0Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated\u00a0the\u00a0SEMICON India 2025\u00a0on September 2 at New Delhi.\u00a0\u00a0This fourth edition is India\u2019s largest, with over 350 exhibiting\u00a0companies from 33 countries and regions and a record number of global stakeholders. SEMICON India 2025 is jointly organized by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and SEMI, the global semiconductor industry association.<\/p>\n

In just four years, since the launch of the\u00a0India Semiconductor Mission (ISM)\u00a0in 2021, India has transformed its semiconductor journey from vision to reality. To support this vision, the government announced a\u00a0\u20b976,000 crore Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, of which nearly\u00a0\u20b965,000 crore has already been committed.<\/p>\n
