Skywatchers are in for a treat as a total lunar eclipse, also known as Blood Moon or Chandra Grahan, is set to light up the night sky on September 7 and 8. This celestial event will be visible in most of North America, including parts of Eastern Australia, Europe, New Zealand, Asia and Africa. FYI: A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth aligns itself directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow. This alignment results in the Moon taking on a crimson hue. But before the Blood Moon, space enthusiasts can also witness another spectacular occurrence, aka the Corn Moon.<\/p>\n

The Corn Moon with a breathtaking total lunar eclipse will be a spectacular sight in the night sky on September 7. The full moon in September 2025 is known as the Corn Moon or Harvest Moon, a celestial pair that delivers tradition and transformation. According to Almanac.com, the Harvest Moon\u2019s name has spiritual and cultural significance, denoting a fruitful harvest and the end of the growing season.<\/p>\n

What Is the Corn Moon?<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2025, the September full moon is referred to as the Corn Moon, in contrast to years when it is called the \u201cHarvest Moon.” Corn Moon does not always occur in September, but rather coincides with the autumnal equinox. They are also known for rising shortly after sunset for a number of consecutive days, which allowed farmers to gather crops faster because they had more light in the early evening. The name dates back to the time when corn crops were at their peak in North America.<\/p>\n

Blood Moon in Disguise<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Corn Moon\u2019s transition into a Blood Moon during a total lunar eclipse is what makes it even more remarkable this year. The moon will appear reddish on the evening of September 7 as totality moves across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia due to Earth\u2019s shadow. On the evening of September 7, the Corn Moon, a radiant farewell to summer, will shine in our skies. This year, it will be even more magical because of a rare total lunar eclipse that will turn the moon copper-red in a spectacular Blood Moon show.<\/p>\n

Corn Moon Timings<\/strong><\/p>\n

The full Corn Moon will be clearly visible at 11:40 pm EDT on Sunday, September 7. The penumbral eclipse will begin at 12:58 AM on Monday, September 8, followed by the partial eclipse at 4:27 pm. Meanwhile, the totality will peak at 6:11 pm and last until 7:53 pm approximately. The eclipse is going to end at 8:55 pm.<\/p>\n

Those interested in watching the lunar eclipse need not wear any protective glasses, as the phenomenon can be viewed with the naked eye. Telescopes, however, enhance the experience.<\/p>\n
