Afghanistan defeated the United Arab Emirates by four runs on Friday, September 5, to win the sixth match of the ongoing T20I tri-series in the UAE. In the last league match played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday, after opting to bat first, Afghanistan, under Ibrahim Zadran\u2019s leadership, posted a total of 170\/4 in 20 overs. The target of 171 runs proved too much for the hosts, and they could only manage to reach 166\/5.<\/p>\n

The win over UAE on Friday helped Afghanistan equal Bangladesh\u2019s elite record. They became only the second team (full-member nation) in the world to win 20 T20I matches at one venue.<\/p>\n

Afghanistan have won 20 out of 29 T20Is played so far at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. On the other hand, Bangladesh have won 24 out of 48 T20Is played at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.<\/p>\n

Afghanistan is, however, the first team to win 20 T20Is on an away ground.<\/p>\n

In the list of teams with the most T20I wins at one venue, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are followed by Pakistan and South Africa. Pakistan have won 18 T20I matches at Dubai International Cricket Stadium and 16 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, whereas the Proteas have managed to secure wins in 14 out of 26 T20I matches played so far at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n

For Afghanistan, stand-in captain Ibrahim Zadran top-scored on Friday. He faced 35 balls and, with the help of three fours and as many sixes, scored a total of 48 runs. He added 98 runs in 12 overs for the first wicket with wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who made 40 runs from 38 balls (3 fours, 1 six).<\/p>\n

Karim Janat added 28 runs from 14 balls to Afghanistan\u2019s total, and Gulbadin Naib remained unbeaten on 20 runs from 14 balls.<\/p>\n

In reply, captain Mohammad Waseem once again finished as the highest run getter for the UAE. He amassed a total of 44 runs from 29 balls, and Asif Khan hammered 40 runs from 28 balls as a No. 5 batter. For the visitors, Fareed Ahmad Malik, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Noor Ahmad and Abdullah Ahmadzai picked up one wicket each.<\/p>\n

In the final of the T20I tri-series on Sunday, September 7, Afghanistan will now face Pakistan at the same venue.<\/p>\n
