Australia great Mitchell Starc recently called time on his T20I career just a few months before the world cup gets underway in India and Sri Lanka. Starc has revealed that while he did inform his fellow pacers Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins besides head coach Andrew McDonald of his decision, he forgot to tell his T20I captain Mitchel Starc.<\/p>\n

Marsh found out about Starc\u2019s T20I retirement on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cI did let them know, I did not ask them. I spoke to Ronnie (McDonald), and then told the two of them, I was done. Yeah, that was about it. I probably should have rang Mitchy (Marsh). He texted me and said he found out through Instagram. I felt bad about that one. Sorry, Mitchy. Didn\u2019t tell the captain, yeah,” Starc said in the cricket.com.au<\/em>\u2018s Unplayable podcast.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old Starc played 65 T20Is since making his debut in 2012 and won the world cup with Australia in 2021. He took 79 wickets in T20Is which is the second-most in Australian history behind only Adam Zampa.<\/p>\n

Starc, one of the finest fast bowlers of the modern era, indicated his decision has to do with him keeping Test cricket ahead in priority.<\/p>\n

\u201cTest cricket is and has always been my highest priority,” Starc said. \u201cI have loved every minute of every T20 game I have played for Australia, particularly the 2021 World Cup, not just because we won but the incredible group and the fun along the way.”<\/p>\n

Starc Explains Sudden T20I Retirement<\/strong><\/p>\n

Starc has set sights on Australia\u2019s next Test tour of India in 2027 in addition to the one-day world up in Africa. To keep himself in top shape, the veteran has quit T20Is.<\/p>\n

\u201cLooking ahead to an away Indian Test tour, the Ashes and an ODI World Cup in 2027, I feel this is my best way forward to remain fresh, fit and at my best for those campaigns,” Starc said. \u201cIt also gives the bowling group time to prepare for the T20 World Cup in the matches leading into that tournament,” he said.<\/p>\n
