The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday played down AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran\u2019s decision to step out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu, and asserted that all democratic parties keen on unseating the DMK from the throne will unite in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n

BJP\u2019s state unit chief spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathy said that though differences were common among allies, nothing should be construed as final at this juncture, as the election was still far away.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou will see who are all in the NDA in Tamil Nadu led by the AIADMK at the time of elections. This is not a break-up or end (of alliance),” Thirupathy was quoted by news agency PTI as saying.<\/p>\n

On Dhinakaran\u2019s accusation of “betrayal,” when he aimed to bring all of Amma (late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa\u2019s) cadres together but suddenly realised that this (unification of AIADMK factions) could not materialise, Thirupathy said, \u201che didn\u2019t mean the BJP. So, I need not comment.” “I am confident that all political parties driven by a common desire to dislodge the DMK from power will unite under the umbrella of NDA,” he added.<\/p>\n

The saffron party\u2019s reaction came a day after Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), led by T T V Dhinakaran, announced its decision to walk out of the NDA in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters, Dhinakaran said, \u201cThis movement (AMMK) was started against the betrayal of some people. We believed they would change, but nothing happened.”<\/p>\n

Dhinakaran alleged that AIADMK\u2014particularly its general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami\u2014strongly opposed AMMK\u2019s inclusion in the coalition.<\/p>\n

He said that he had hoped for intervention from Union Home Minister Amit Shah to resolve the matter, but no such move came from the BJP leadership.<\/p>\n

The NDA in Tamil Nadu is spearheaded by the AIADMK. After breaking ties in 2023, the party renewed its alliance with the BJP in April 2025.<\/p>\n

The AMMK is the second party to pull out from the BJP-led alliance. Earlier, O Panneerselvam, who was expelled from AIADMK, had withdrawn his outfit from the front.<\/p>\n
