Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on Thursday\u00a0raised the issue of migration from Bihar, unemployment and discrimination against Biharis in other states, even after nearly eight decades of Independence.<\/p>\n

While addressing a public gathering in Muzaffarpur, Paswan said, \u201cWhen India became independent, Delhi and Mumbai grew into big cities, but even after nearly 80 years, Bihar is still counted among backwards states. Even today, our youth have to leave for education and employment.”<\/p>\n

Sharing his own experience of living in Delhi and working in Mumbai, Paswan said he had never heard of anyone coming to Bihar for the same opportunities. \u201cWhy should only Biharis migrate? Why can\u2019t such facilities be built here?” he asked, adding that he dreams of a day when even people from Mumbai would come to Bihar.<\/p>\n

His comments underline a key issue likely to dominate the poll campaign \u2014 unemployment and large-scale migration of youth in search of better opportunities.<\/p>\n

Chirag Paswan has already announced that his party will contest all 243 seats in Bihar, which is likely to make the contest triangular. This move not only challenges the RJD-Congress grand alliance but can also affect the strategy of the NDA led by JDU leader Nitish Kumar.<\/p>\n

However, Chirag has clarified that he will contest the elections only under the leadership of Nitish Kumar and has claimed that the NDA will win more than 225 seats.<\/p>\n

In the 2024 general election, Chirag Paswan\u2019s party won all five seats it contested, cornering a vote-share of over 6 per cent. In the 2020 Bihar election, held right after Ram Vilas Paswan\u2019s death, the undivided LJP went solo. It won one seat, but finished second in nine seats, cornering over 5.6 per cent of the vote share and harming the NDA.<\/p>\n

The BJP is aware that Chirag Paswan could make an even greater impact this time, and he has been hinting that he might go it alone if his seat-sharing demands are not accommodated.<\/p>\n

Chirag Paswan has a history of trading barbs with Nitish Kumar, and the BJP, which enjoys JDU\u2019s support at the Centre, cannot afford to upset its chief.<\/p>\n

Through campaigns like \u2018Bihar First, Bihari First\u2019 and outreach initiatives such as Chirag ka Chaupal, he has been projecting himself as more than just an NDA ally, but a strong political force in his own right. The BJP now finds itself in a delicate position, balancing Chirag Paswan\u2019s demands without straining ties with the JD(U) and other NDA partners.<\/p>\n
