Bank Holiday Today: RBI shifts bank holiday for Id-Ul-Milad to August 08 from August 05. <\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

Bank Holiday In September 2025:<\/strong> There has been confusion among people about whether banks are open or closed today, August 05, on account of Id-e-Milad (Milad-un-Nabi) and Onam. The confusion is happening after the RBI\u2019s circular on the change in Public Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act. It stated that \u201cthe Government of Maharashtra has declared September 08, 2025, as a public<\/span><\/p>\n

holiday\u2026the public holiday on September 05, 2025, declared earlier has been cancelled.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to RBI\u2019s holiday negotiable instruments list, the day is marked as a public holiday for public and private lender in specific states and cities. Thus, people are expecting that banks should be closed for offline functions. <\/span><\/p>\n

Are Banks Open Or Closed Today, August 05? <\/span><\/h3>\n

It means banks today will remain closed today, August 05, in certain states on the account of Id-Ul-Milad and Onam.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Maharashtra government on Thursday said the public holiday on account of Eid-e-Milad in Mumbai city and suburban district will be observed on September 8, instead of September 5.<\/p>\n

Id-E-Milad commemorates the birthday of Prophet Mohammad, while <\/span>Thiruvonam<\/span> marks the final day of the Onam festival, celebrated with grandeur in Kerala and parts of South India. These festivals hold cultural and religious significance and are marked with prayers, processions and family gatherings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Customers planning to visit banks are advised to check their local branch schedules to confirm if services are available. Even when branches are closed, digital banking options, ATMs, UPI and online transactions will remain fully operational, ensuring financial services are not disrupted.<\/span><\/p>\n

Banks will remain closed in these cities on September 5\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2013 North India: Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), New Delhi (Delhi), Dehradun (Uttarakhand), Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 South India: Bengaluru (Karnataka), Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Hyderabad (Telangana), Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Kochi (Kerala) and Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Northeast India: Imphal (Manipur) and Aizawl (Mizoram).<\/span><\/p>\n

Certain banking transactions, including those in the government securities market, foreign exchange and money markets, will not be settled on September 08, according to RBI\u2019s new circular.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Sept. 6: <\/span>Indrajatra<\/span> \/ Local Holiday in Gangtok, Jammu, Raipur and Srinagar.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Sept. 12: Day following Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi in Jaipur, Jammu and Srinagar.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Sept. 22: <\/span>Navratra<\/span> Sthapna<\/span> in Jaipur.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Sept. 23: Maharaja Hari Singh Ji\u2019s Birthday in Jaipur.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Sept. 29: Durga Puja\/<\/span>Maha<\/span> Saptami in Agartala, Guwahati, Jaipur and Kolkata.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Sept. 30: <\/span>Maha<\/span> Ashtami \/ Durga Ashtami in Patna, Agartala, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Imphal, Ranchi and Kolkata.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apart from public holidays, banks remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month and all Sundays. Customers are advised to plan and confirm branch timings in advance.<\/span><\/p>\n

The RBI\u2019s official holiday calendar provides state-wise details of closures and is a useful guide for scheduling both personal and business transactions without any inconvenience.<\/span><\/p>\n
