A user shared that his girlfriend, who works in marketing and customer surveys, unintentionally created a professional crisis after presenting ChatGPT-generated data as official analysis to a client.<\/p>\n

According to the post, she initially used ChatGPT to draft survey questions but later relied on it for analysing responses. She uploaded Excel files, downloaded AI-generated outputs, and included them in her official work. The trouble began when she submitted a PowerPoint presentation that incorporated results calculated using \u2018Pearson\u2019s correlation coefficient\u2019.<\/p>\n

The Reddit user explained that the survey contained text-based responses categorised into five \u2018feeling\u2019 buckets, which were unsuitable for such statistical calculations. Although ChatGPT attempted to convert responses into numbers, it could not explain its methodology or display the calculations, leaving the client with results that were technically flawed.<\/p>\n

Seeking advice for her girlfriend, the Reddit user asked the platform, \u201cWhat can we do to save her job?” Responses ranged from suggesting a cover-up, claiming the placeholder data was accidentally included, to advising honesty: \u201cAdmit the truth, face the consequences, and learn the lesson that ChatGPT can make mistakes. Always verify important information.”<\/p>\n

Experts warn that while AI tools can assist in drafting and brainstorming, relying on them without verification can lead to errors, fabrications, or miscalculations. This incident serves as a cautionary tale for workplaces integrating AI into professional processes, emphasising the need for human oversight and careful fact-checking.<\/p>\n
