Major changes to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system were announced recently where that only two rates will remain from September 22: 5 per cent and 18 per cent. With this changes, essentials like groceries, medicines, cement, footwear and even renewable energy will now be cheaper. On the other hand, taxes on luxury and sin goods including tobacco, soft drinks and high-end cars, have been increased. This shift has sparked discussions about money and its real importance in one\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

Spiritual leader Premanand Maharaj has time and again shared his thoughts on the true meaning of wealth.<\/p>\n

As households adjust to these financial changes, his teachings on the true role of money come into focus.<\/p>\n

Premanand Maharaj On The Role Of Money<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maharaj often emphasises that money is not the key to happiness. During one satsang, when a devotee asked about how much money is essential for a householder\u2019s life, Maharaj explained that \u201clove and purity of senses” are far more important than wealth.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cIf you love, then you will not look at anyone else whether you are a woman or a man. In married life, money is not essential but love is. And along with love you need purity, a commitment that a relationship will never be tainted. Then, even if you don\u2019t have much, you both will be happy.”<\/p>\n

Material Desires vs True Happiness<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maharaj also pointed out that when couples prioritise material gifts or luxury, it can lead to conflicts. He said, \u201cIf you say you cannot provide, then what happens? A divorce. Is this married life just for material happiness? Love did not make you happy? Will gold and silver make you happy? Will worldly things make you happy? If we love each other then we will deal with any situation.”<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat importance does money have? Money will come automatically when you live by dharma,” he added.<\/p>\n

Wealth, Ego And Humility<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maharaj has also warned against arrogance tied to wealth. In one satsang, he shared a story where a devotee offered to install a large glass structure for his satsangs in his honour. However, the Maharaj refused and told him that he will break it with a hammer.<\/p>\n

He explained, \u201cHe started to feel that Baba will honour me. I don\u2019t want anything which is tinged with pride. I don\u2019t care if someone is rich or poor. The arrogant are dishonored. Wealth is not a measure of a person\u2019s worth. True greatness lies in humility, and blessings should be accepted with modesty.”<\/p>\n

There have been times when Maharaj is seen travelling in luxury vehicles. But he has made it clear these are offered by devotees and not personally owned. His teachings stress that such possessions should never lead to pride. Humility and service remain the cornerstones of his philosophy regardless of wealth or fame.<\/p>\n
