Veteran India legspinner Amit Mishra announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Thursday, concluding a career that spanned over 15 years. Having last represented India in 2017, the 42-year-old Haryana cricketer continued to participate in the IPL until the 2024 edition.<\/p>\n

Today, after 25 years, I announce my retirement from cricket \u2014 a game that has been my first love, my teacher, and my greatest source of joy. This journey has been filled with countless emotions \u2014 moments of pride, hardship, learning, and love. I am deeply grateful to the BCCI, Haryana Cricket Association, my coaches, support staff, colleagues, and most importantly, the fans, whose faith and support gave me strength at every step,” Mishra posted on X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n

Mishra played for India in 22 Tests, 36 ODIs, and 10 T20s. He took a combined 156 wickets during his international career.<\/p>\n

A classical leg-break bowler, he made his Test debut against Australia in 2008.<\/p>\n

Mishra had a successful debut, taking a five-wicket haul in the first innings and adding a couple more in the second innings.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese 25 years (first class debut in 2000) of my life in cricket have been nothing short of memorable. I am deeply grateful to the BCCI, the administration, Haryana cricket association, the support staff, my colleagues, and to my family members who were with me all this while,” the 42-year-old said in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to thank the fans whose love and support whenever and wherever I played made the journey memorable. Cricket has given me countless memories and invaluable learnings, and each moment on the ground has been a memory I\u2019ll treasure for life,” he added.<\/p>\n

Mishra thanked his family, teammates and mentors<\/p>\n

From the struggles and sacrifices in the early days to the unforgettable moments on the field, every chapter has been an experience that has shaped me as a cricketer and as a person. To my family \u2013 thank you for standing firmly by my side through the highs and lows. To my teammates and mentors \u2013 thank you for making this journey so special,” he wrote.<\/p>\n

Mishra took 535 wickets from 152 first-class matches including 21 five-wicket hauls. In 152 List A games, he took 252 wickets that include six five-wicket hauls.<\/p>\n

From 259 T20s, Mishra ha 285 wickets at an economy of 7.16.<\/p>\n

He has indicated at remaining associated with cricket in some capacity.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I close this chapter, my heart is full of gratitude and love. Cricket has given me everything, and now, I look forward to giving back to the game that made me who I am,” he concluded.<\/p>\n
