According to the Hindu Panchang<\/em>, Pitru Paksha<\/em> starts from the Pratipada Tithi<\/em> of Krishna Paksha<\/em> in the Ashwin<\/em> month and continues till Amavasya<\/em>.<\/p>\n

During this period, rituals such as Tarpan, Pinddaan, Shraddh, Daan, Panchbali Karma<\/em>, and Bhoj<\/em> are performed to pay homage to the souls of our ancestors. It is also believed to be an auspicious time for remedies to remove Pitru Dosh<\/em>.<\/p>\n

A key question many families face is how to determine the exact date of Shraddh<\/em>\u00a0or Tarpan<\/em> for their ancestors. Hindu scriptures specify that rituals must be performed on the same lunar date (tithi)<\/em> in Pitru Paksha<\/em> that corresponds to the ancestor\u2019s death date.<\/p>\n

For instance, if someone passes away on September 4, 2025, which falls on Dwadashi Tithi<\/em> of Shukla Paksha<\/em> in the month of Bhadrapada<\/em>, then their Shraddh<\/em>\u00a0should be performed on Dwadashi Tithi<\/em> of Pitru Paksha<\/em> every year.<\/p>\n

Pitru Paksha<\/em> generally lasts 14 to 16 days and covers all 15 tithis<\/em> from Ashwin Krishna Pratipada<\/em> to Amavasya<\/em>. During this time, families perform rituals for their late father, mother, grandparents, maternal grandparents, and other deceased relatives. These rituals ensure peace for the departed souls and blessings for the family.<\/p>\n
